REGIONAL AIRPORT Trustees to discuss new zoning district

Parts of five townships are in the proposed airport zoning district.
HUBBARD -- Trustees from Hubbard and other townships surrounding the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport were to meet with the Trumbull County Planning Commission at 2 p.m. today to learn more about a special zoning district proposed for airport flight paths.
Also today, county commissioners were expected to take the first step toward implementing airport zoning by appointing a five-person airport zoning commission to draw up possible regulations.
The regulations suggested by the planning commission would mirror FAA guidelines and ban buildings taller than 150 feet within about 2.5 miles of the airport, and buildings taller than 400 feet within about 3.5 miles.
There are no buildings that tall near the airport now. However, the indoor motorsports racetrack proposed for a site near the airport would tower 400 feet.
Areas covered
Hubbard officials will attend the meeting to see what's needed for them to support the zoning of these flight areas. The airport zoning district would also cover parts of Vienna, Fowler, Brookfield, Howland and Bazetta townships
Trustees also scheduled an executive session for zoning administration discussions. The meeting is set for Oct. 20, time to be announced.
During its meeting Wednesday, trustees discussed the obstructed view on the bend heading south on John White Road. A motion was passed to clear away brush and trees enabling oncoming traffic to have a better view when driving on the road..
Police Chief Todd Coonce reported that a defibrillator will be purchased for the police department and will be carried in cruisers. A certified instructor will train officers to use the equipment.
