POLAND -- A 31-year-old Clingan Road man was in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center after being flown there Wednesday afternoon, after his 1995 Cadillac Eldorado struck a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 224.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Donald Hazelet was traveling east on Route 224 just east of Clingan Road about 5 p.m. and crashed into the truck, which was traveling west, as he attempted to pass traffic.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Michael Ault, 56, of Armagh, Pa., was uninjured. He was hauling steel coil.
Hazelet is charged with improper passing and driving under the influence.
Boy charged with arson
YOUNGSTOWN -- Larry McDonald, 17, of Elberen Street was charged with arson after an investigation into the weekend fire of a vacant four-story house at 440 Division St., Kevin Johnson, a member of the fire department's arson bureau, said Wednesday.
Johnson said the structure was a total loss. Reports show the property loss estimated at $25,000. Firefighters were sent to the fire at 6:20 p.m. Saturday.
Shooting investigation
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating a shooting that sent a 35-year-old Ravenna Avenue man to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
A police report says Rodney F. Tucker was shot in the left hip and right leg shortly before 3 p.m. by a man he knows. Police reports didn't indicate to which hospital he was taken, and his condition was not immediately available.
Tucker told police the man entered the house, pulled out a handgun, demanded money, and shot him inside the house when he said he didn't have any cash.
A witness told police the gunman fled in a green Denali SUV.
Police recovered two .40-caliber shell casings from the front yard and found no blood evidence inside the house.
Shooting victim stable
CAMPBELL -- Juan J. Wolfe, 28, of Helena Avenue, Youngstown, was in stable condition this morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown with a gunshot wound of the left leg.
He was found lying in front of the Monroe Market, 112 Monroe St., about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The victim was unable to tell police what happened.
Man robbed in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN -- A Shiloh, Ohio, man told police two men robbed him of cash in a Seventy-six Drive parking lot about 4 a.m. today.
The two men then got into a car and drove away, reports state.
Arrested after car chase
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are expected to file charges against a Warren man arrested on warrants after a car chase that began early today in the township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested Richard Hanna, 37, of Kings Drive, on warrants for failing to appear in court in Carroll County on resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges.
Police said Hanna was driving a car that went over the center line on Burkey Road at 12:24 a.m. Police said they chased Hanna but quit on Interstate 80 westbound at the Meander Reservoir because of poor road conditions and increasing traffic.
The state patrol arrested Hanna a short time later after he lost control of his car on Cable Line Road in Portage County, report state. Reports do not indicate if Hanna was injured.
Man wanted in felonies
AUSTINTOWN -- Daniel Farah, 44, of Arlene Avenue is wanted by police on charges of felony theft and felony auto theft.
Reports state that on Sept. 30, Farah wrote a $500 check on a closed account to the Fairfield Inn on state Route 46 to pay part of a $1,300 bill, and hotel employees say they haven't heard from him since.
Police said Farah also borrowed a car from a friend Oct. 6 in the Fairfield Inn parking lot. The car was never returned, police said.
Cemetery decorations
NILES -- St. Stephen Cemetery is asking that all decorations be removed from graves by Oct. 31 for fall cleanup. Any items remaining after that date will be discarded.
