No area girls in state golf event
MASSILLON -- The Mahoning Valley won't be represented at this year's state high school girls golf tournament.
Area golfers struggled Tuesday at The Legends of Massillon course, falling short of the top five state-qualifying places for teams and individuals.
Kathleen Ekey won medalist honors by shooting 73 and leading Walsh Jesuit to the team title with 349 points.
Lakeview's Laura Nochta (80) and Warren John F. Kennedy's Katie Rogner (81) finished with the area's best individual scores, while JFK placed 10th (387) for the area's best team score.
Other area teams competing in the district were: Canfield (13th, 395); Lakeview (15th, 404); and Poland (16th, 408).
Other area results
Jennifer Hudock led Canfield by shooting 90 while Stephanie Mrozek had a 98 for Poland.
The area's individual district participants were Cardinal Mooney's Mollie Boney (87), Howland's Katie Jurenovich (90), Salem's Yvonne Goll (99) and Boardman's Justine Cullen (108).
In addition to Walsh Jesuit, state team qualifiers were Parma Padua (353), Copley (355), Medina (358) and Solon (361).
State individual qualifiers (not on a qualifying team) were Brecksville's Stef Shaw (76), North Royalton's Jackie Studor (76), Fairless' Lindsay Salsburg (76), Strongsville's Christine Suchy (78) and Elyria Catholic's Alexa Porter (78).
