MERCER COUNTY Hunter must pay $4,720 for illegally killing bear

SHARON, Pa. --The Pennsylvania Game Commission said a Mercer County man was fined $2,500 and ordered to pay $2,220 in replacement costs plus court costs for illegally killing a black bear in the 2003 season.
Robert B. Foulkrod, 41, of Greenville, also will have his hunting and fur-taking privileges suspended, the game commission ruled.
The charges
Foulkrod was charged with two counts of unlawful taking or possession of a black bear, one count of unlawful devices and methods for hunting bear by using a corn feeder as bait, hunting within a safety zone and making a false or fraudulent statement to a wildlife conservation officer.
Authorities said the violations occurred Nov. 24 in the Kelly Hill area of Limestone Township in Warren County.
Charges were filed against Foulkrod before District Justice Cynthia K. Lindemuth of Tidioute, who found Foulkrod guilty on all counts during a hearing March 4.
He appealed four of the five charges to Warren County Common Pleas Court, but a judge found him guilty on all those charges again in a trial in May.
He was sentenced Aug. 11.
Dustin Stoner, wildlife conservation officer, said the case started out as a result of information provided by a concerned citizen to the commission's Franklin office.
