Man's arrest leads police to missing Hamburglar
NILES -- Police found more than just a couple fighting when they answered a domestic violence call. They also located a missing fast-food icon.
Police were called to a Wilson Street home shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday after a woman said she'd been assaulted by her husband.
When police arrived, the woman said her husband had punched her in the chest. John Monteneri, 49, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence.
The woman gave a written statement to police that the couple was arguing over Monteneri's involvement in the theft of Hamburglar -- a 6-foot-to-7-foot-tall McDonald's character.
The woman led police to the basement, where the doll -- dressed in black-and-white prison garb, a cape and a hat -- was in a chair. Officers determined the item, which is valued at $1,500, was taken from a McDonald's restaurant on North Road in Warren.
Police took Hamburglar as evidence and contacted the restaurant's managers.
A charge of receiving stolen property was also filed against Monteneri, who is expected to be arraigned in Niles Municipal Court sometime this week.
