There's an alternative to emergency room care
There's an alternative to emergency room care
EDITOR:
Concerning the Sept. 28 letter, "Flawed system helps jam hospital emergency rooms," I would like to offer a viable solution, which is Ohio North East Health Systems. Originally founded as the Youngstown Community Health Center in 1986, our organization has recently grown to include health centers in the Warren and Alliance communities. As we continue to reach out to communities and patients throughout Northeast Ohio who are in need of quality health care, we have changed our identity to be known as the Ohio North East Health Systems, Inc.
Ohio North East Health Systems, Inc. has the ultimate goal of providing quality, comprehensive primary health care services, and to improve the overall health of the communities it serves by reducing barriers to health care, including: ability to pay, transportation, and language. The majority of our clients have little or no access to other health care providers due to a lack of private insurance. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we have a firm commitment to provide care to all people, and will never turn patients away based upon their finances, insurance coverage or ability to pay.
The services and programs offered at ONE Health Systems reflect a philosophy that recognizes the importance of life and protects the dignity of each individual we serve. Although our primary focus is to serve patients whose access to healthcare has been limited by their economic status, our services are available to our entire community.
Each patient enjoys the benefits of combined expertise from our team approach to medical care. Throughout each patient's medical or dental treatment, our providers show both dignity and respect. On a day-to-day basis, our staff demonstrates the compassion and cultural sensitivity that has become synonymous with our organization.
Each center offers a variety of health care services on a sliding fee scale for the uninsured and the underinsured. Medicare, Medicaid and some insurances are accepted. Our available services include:
Adult medicine, cancer screenings, dental care, diabetes management, diabetic counseling, health education, hearing and speech, lab testing, mental health, OB/Gyn, pediatrics, podiatry, prescription assistance, transportation and vision screenings
In addition to the above services, various health screenings, counseling, lab services, referrals and access to health information are offered. We also provide translation services for Spanish and hearing impaired individuals upon request.

A dangerous political game
EDITOR:
I want to clear up some of the fog that Sen. John Kerry is spreading about our president, George Bush. I want the voters to be aware of the following facts. Many Democrats want to play politics about our national security. Kerry voted against the F-16 Fighting Falcons, M1 Abrams Patriot Missile, AH 64 Apache Helicopter, Tomahawk Cruise Missile.
Kerry also voted to reduce spending for the B-2 Stealth Bomber, voted to cut $6 billion from the defense budget in 1992. In 1993 he voted against increased defense spending for a military pay raise. Next John Kerry introduced a plan to cut the number of Navy submarines and their crews, reducing the number of light infantry army units, and forcing the retirement of no less than 60,000 members of the military.
Kerry voted to give the president authority to go into Iraq. However, when the vote came down to $87 billion for protective armor, Kerry was one of 12 Democrats who said no. Keep in mind this is the man who wants to reform intelligence. John Kerry was wrong then, and he's been wrong for the past 19 years than any other senator.
Now that John Kerry finally has a position on Iraq, his voting record is fair game; and it's important to see the differences between the two candidates. Our president is making the world a safer place while John Kerry is playing politics with our national security.
In the post-Sept. 11 era, our president is strong on defense. John Kerry's record shows that he's the wrong man to be the leader of our military forces.
