SWCD plans fall fish sale



A free gardening clinic is also scheduled.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting orders for its annual fall fish sale.
The deadline to place orders is Monday, and the fish can be picked up from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in front of the education building at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Payment must be made when the order is placed.
Species available for purchase include:
UFingerling largemouth bass.
UChannel catfish.
UBluegill.
URedear shellcrackers.
UCrappie.
UPerch.
UMinnows.
UWhite amur.
Buyers must provide their own water and containers for picking up the fish.
Order forms are available at the soil and water conservation district office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield, or by calling the office at (330) 533-2231. The agency's Web site, www.mahoningswcd.org, also has information about the fish sale, pickup information and an order form available to be downloaded and printed.
Also on Oct. 21, the SWCD will hold a free water gardening clinic from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm in Canfield.
Tom Gober, owner and pond expert at Colonial Gardens, will speak on topics including basic pond construction, plants and fish, and winterizing a pond. Reservations can be made by calling the SWCD office.
