AUCTIONS
XAustintown Junior Women's League will sponsor its seventh annual wine taste and Chinese auction Saturday at Theodore's Banquet Centre, 1400 N. Canfield-Niles Road, Mineral Ridge. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the wine presentation will be held from 7 to 9 along with the auction. Music and dancing will follow until 11. XNew Life Maternity Home, 3653 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, will hold its 13th annual banquet and silent auction Nov. 3 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex, Liberty. XThe second annual Ursuline High School "Celebrate Our Legacy" auction and dinner are planned Oct. 29 at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman. The social time will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a gourmet dinner. The auction will begin at 8, and items will include vacations, jewelry, artwork and signed sports memorabilia. Proceeds will benefit the technology development, instructional resources and other programs at Ursuline High School. BAZAARS
XBraceville United Methodist Church, 577 Park Road S.W., Newton Falls, will hold a bazaar from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday featuring homemade rag rugs, children's clothes, candies, baked goods, Christmas decorations, toys and commemorative throws. There will be a light lunch. A turkey dinner will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Meals are $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 5 to 12 and free for those 4 and under. Carryouts will be available. Tickets will be sold at the door.
XZion Lutheran Church, 10857 Main St., New Middletown, will hold a bazaar from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday featuring a Chinese auction, crafts, jewelry, baked goods and white elephant items. Luncheon will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a spaghetti dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dinners are $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 7 to 12 and free for those 6 and under. CRAFTS SHOWS
XMathews Harvest Day arts, craft and car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at routes 193 and old 82 in Vienna Center. Food also will be available, and proceeds will benefit the Mathews Athletic Building.
XMathews PTO, Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, will hold a craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Featured will be a pumpkin and scarecrow contest, crafters from the tri-county area, a basket raffle and a kitchen, where there will be homemade ravioli, wedding soup, roast beef sandwiches and baked goods. XAn Apple Butter Festival is planned Saturday at Lake Milton Presbyterian Church, 942 Grandview Road, Lake Milton. Food will include apple butter, apple pie, apple dumplings, apple crisp, caramel apples and mulled cider. XThe second annual Apple Festival will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard. There will be games, music, food and baked goods. A dinner will be served during the festival, and those interested are asked to buy tickets in advance by calling the church at (330) 545-4351. Cost is $5 for half a barbecued or half a plain chicken; $8, a half slab of baby back barbecued ribs; and $13, a full slab of baby back ribs. All dinners will include french fries and applesauce. A children's dinner of hot dogs, french fries and applesauce will also be available. Girard Community Band will play from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and DJ Cosmo from 7 to 9.
FUND-RAISERS
XZeta Tau Alpha sorority at Youngstown State University will sponsor its fourth annual Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 at YSU's Beeghly Center. Cheerleading teams of all ages from the area will compete. Squads will have the chance to win awards, and a donor award will be given to the squad who raises the highest amount of money. SHOWS
XHowland Community Church Women's Fellowship will hold its annual quilt show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 4 Saturday at the church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road S.E., Warren. Shops will display patterns, fabric and quilting supplies. An auction for an antique quilt will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Dee Dadik, certified appraiser, will evaluate quilts. Appointments must be made by calling the church at (330) 856-3628. She will give a lecture at 2 p.m. Friday about dating quilts and quilt history. There also will be a raffle for four quilt hangings. The country kitchen will serve food.
SPECIAL EVENTS
XAuxiliary to VFW Post 4192, 3886 state Route 46, Mineral Ridge, will sponsor its annual Halloween party from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the pavilion behind the post. The theme will be honoring the military, and veterans will judge entries for the best military costume. There will be food, prizes and identification kits for children. A bake sale also will be held.
