Prank phone calls
NILES -- Two city residents reported receiving prank phone calls telling them relatives had been involved in serious car accidents. Police reports say a Moreland Road woman and a Difford Drive man reported receiving phone calls around 3 a.m. Saturday. In each case, the residents were told their children were involved in serious accidents and that they needed to get to Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The Difford Drive man told police he knew it was a prank since his son was home and in bed. The man also told police the caller called back and began yelling profanities.
Candlelight vigil planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- A candlelight vigil in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be at noon Thursday at the Mahoning County Courthouse. Eve Bevilacqua, chief executive officer of Bodyworks Fitness Center for Women, will emcee. Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin-Casey of the Youngstown Police Department's crisis intervention unit will be guest speaker. Sojourner House will sponsor the vigil.
Officers added for event
AUSTINTOWN -- Additional police officers will be on patrol enforcing traffic laws during Fitch High School's Homecoming on Friday and Saturday. The extra patrols are funded through the governor's Highway Safety Office.
Wreck leads to charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police charged a Struthers man with drunken driving after his van struck a motorcycle at Louise Avenue and East Midlothian Boulevard. David W. Dilla, 47, of State Street, Struthers, was charged with DUI and failure to maintain assured clear distance, police said. He was later released, police said. Milissa Wright, 33, of Brownlee Avenue, a passenger on the motorcycle, was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The driver of the motorcycle, James A. Fuschillo, no address available, told police that he was stopped in traffic about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the van hit the rear of his cycle. Dilla told police he did not see the motorcycle.
