YOUNGSTOWN -- A free introductory workshop on computer searches for grants will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the main library meeting room, 305 Wick Ave. The program is for representatives of nonprofit organizations seeking information on fund raising. Candlelight vigil planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- A candlelight vigil in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be at noon Thursday at the Mahoning County Courthouse. Eve Bevilacqua, CEO of Bodyworks Fitness Center for Women, will emcee. Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin-Casey of the Youngstown Police Department's crisis intervention unit will be guest speaker. Sojourner House will sponsor the vigil.
Officers added for event
AUSTINTOWN -- Additional police officers will be on patrol enforcing traffic laws during Fitch High School's Homecoming on Friday and Saturday. The extra patrols are funded through the governor's Highway Safety Office.
Man's pretrial date set
CAMPBELL -- Demitrius Morris, 20, of 74 Jean St. will be in municipal court Oct. 22 for a preliminary hearing and pretrial on charges of receiving stolen property, falsification, driving without a license and underage possession of alcohol. He was arrested driving a vehicle reported stolen by a Boardman couple who told police they'd been carjacked.
Wreck leads to DUI charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police charged a Struthers man with drunken driving after his van struck a motorcycle at Louise Avenue and East Midlothian Boulevard. David W. Dilla, 47, of State Street, Struthers, was charged with DUI and failure to maintain assured clear distance, police said. He was later released, police said. Milissa Wright, 33, of Brownlee Avenue, a passenger on the motorcycle, was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The driver of the motorcycle, James A. Fuschillo, no address available, told police that he was stopped in traffic about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when the van hit the rear of his cycle. Dilla told police he did not see the motorcycle.
