Youngstown Hardhats will hold reunion

YOUNGSTOWN -- A reunion of the former Youngstown Hardhats players, a minor league football team, will be held Oct. 21 at the ITAM Hall, 115 S. Meridian Rd.
A donation of $10 for the spaghetti dinner will benefit stem cell research.
Rich Boyle, a 1962 graduate of South High, was equipment manager for the Hardhats from 1979-83.
Since 1996, he has been afflicted with Transverse Myelitis, a disease of the nervous system similar to Multiple Sclerosis.
A few weeks ago, Boyle contacted Jim Bertrando, a former Cardinal Mooney, YSU and Hardhat quarterback, and they got the ball rolling for a reunion.
So far, approximately 15 former Hardhats who played for owner Jim Erskine and coach Al Boggia have been notified.
Rusty Preston, another Hardhat quarterback who played at Boardman High and Bowling Green, and offensive linemen Hugh Frost Jr., Dave Horvath and Cole Pentz all have committed to attending the reunion.
Other former players planning to attend are Terry Stocker, Lou Tabor, Phil Naples, Carl Galterio, Jerome Harrell and Ed Sauline are also planning to attend.
Any other former players can call Boyle at (330) 797-9465.
