Tournament participants
Several area veterans participated in September's annual Training, Exposure, Experience Tournament for Blinded Veterans in Iowa City, Iowa. The local legally blind veterans include: Barbara Anzelmo, 61, of Girard, Army; Joseph Skebo, 73, of Youngstown, Navy; Sidney Harris, 78, of Youngstown, Navy; John Bresko, 84, of Youngstown, Army; and Irvin Fine, 82, of Youngstown, Army.
HONORS
Joint service organization
Air Force Master Sgt. Daniel P. McGuire is a member of the Joint Task Force-Armed Forces Inaugural Committee in Washington, D.C. The competitively selected members from all military branches serve on the joint service organization charged with coordinating all military ceremonial participation and support for the 2005 Presidential Inaugural.
McGuire, a light and heavy vehicle superintendent with 16 years of military service, is the son of Delores L. Donaldson of North Bon Air Avenue, and Richard E. McGuire of Canfield Road, both of Youngstown. McGuire graduated in 1986 from Chaney High School, and received an associate degree in 2000 from Community College of the Air Force.

Soldier re-called
Army Reserve Pfc. Carson J. Smith has been re-called to active duty to complete Soldier Readiness Processing at Fort Snelling, Minn. Smith, son of Carson J. and Sharon R. Smith of East Liverpool, is a motor transport operator normally assigned to the 8980th Transportation Co., Green Bay, Wis.

Food service course
Army Pvt. James H. Gandy graduated from the food service specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Va. Gandy, a son of Mae N. and Johanna L. Gandy of Ellwood City, Pa., is a 2002 graduate of Lincoln High School, Ellwood City.
Maintenance course
Marine Corps Pfc. Matthew R. Carney, son of Suzanne K. and Kevin J. Carney of Poland, completed the three-month AV-8B Airframes Organizational Maintenance Course at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C. Carney is a 2003 graduate of Poland High School.
Equipment operator
Marine Corps Pfc. Joshua J. Cover, son of Susan B. and Robert B. Cover of Mineral Ridge, has graduated from the Basic Hygiene Equipment Operator Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Cover is a 2004 graduate of Mineral Ridge High School.

Ryan T. Stidum graduated from the Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Wash. The son of Jerri Farrah-Wilds of Jamestown, Pa., and R.L. Stidum Jr. of La Mesa, Calif., he graduated in 2000 from Greenville, Pa., High School.
