Effort targets fraudagainst senior citizens
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Better Business Bureau said it is partnering with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and other agencies to try to prevent Internet fraud that targets senior citizens. Identity theft targeting senior citizens has increased 200 percent in the past two years, the BBB said.
It recommends people not put outgoing bill payments in an unsecured mailbox, never pay money to win a prize, never give out a Social Security number or credit card number to callers, never wire money to strangers and never hire someone who shows up at the door. It also says people should call the BBB before doing business with a company.
