Poland, Salem highlight meet
The Quakers swept team titles at the Metro Athletic Conference meet.
SALEM -- Poland High's Jimmy Ramson and Colleen Moran set course records to win individual titles, while Salem swept the team titles at Saturday's Metro Athletic Conference game at Salem Memorial Park.
Ramson, a sophomore, had a time of 16:21, followed by Salem sophomore Patrick Gorby (16:26), who helped the Quakers edge Alliance 36-75 for the team title.
Alliance's Brock Schwarz placed third, followed by Salem junior Paul Shivers and Alliance's Jon Newman.
Moran, a senior, ran a time of 19:15 to beat sophomore teammate Lauren Fithian (19:28). Salem junior Deirdre Clary was third and Salem freshman Liz Shivers was fourth as the Quakers held a small edge over Poland, 43-47.
Canfield senior Regina Bresson finished fifth as the Cardinals placed third.
Tri-County League
HANOVERTON -- East Palestine's Corey Chick placed first with a time of 17:25 -- nearly a minute ahead of teammate Scott Wolfe (18:16) -- as the Bulldogs cruised to the boys team title with 36 points at the Tri-County League meet at United High School.
Columbiana's Jian Yang placed third, followed by East Palestine teammates Brad Weaver and Bryan Hartford.
Lisbon's Kyle Crissmon and Mark West placed sixth and seventh, respectively, as the Blue Devils placed second with 68 points.
Girls
Leetonia's Melissa DiPanfilo won the girls individual title with a time of 20:54 and United's Emmy Prosko finished fourth to lead the Eagles to the team title.
East Palestine's Elizabeth Kelvington was second and teammate Annie Allison finished third. Southern's Amanda Logston was fifth.
Western Reserve Invitational
BERLIN CENTER -- South Range senior Dan Nemergut (17:23.1) edged Badger's Aaron Titus (17:28.5) for the individual title, but the Badgers edged the Raiders for the team title, 43-56, at the Western Reserve Invitational.
Badger's John Miller was third and teammate David Gordon was fifth. Lordstown's Tom Andriko placed fifth.
Girls
South Range junior Andra Sanders (22:00.8) placed second and teammate Devon Parks finished fifth to lead the Raiders to the girls team title, edging Badger 28-47.
Renee McGraw finished third to lead the Badgers. Waterloo's Amie Criswell placed first with a time of 21:39.7.
