Planetarium visits
WARREN -- The city schools planetarium, located in Warren Western Reserve Middle School, is open and available for school and community use. Presentations about stars, constellations, planets and special interests in astronomy can be arranged and tailored for all ages and learning levels.
Visits can be scheduled daily from 9:35 to 10:15 a.m. and from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
After-school and evening hours are also available. The planetarium is closed when the schools are not in session. Programs scheduled during regular school hours or weekday evenings are free of charge; a small fee may apply for weekend programs. Recommended maximum audience size is 60 students or 40 adults.

DUI crackdown
NILES -- The city police department will be increasing its patrols during October to target drunken and impaired drivers. With the use of state funds provided through the Trumbull County DUI Task Force, additional officers will be on city streets at various times specifically looking for dangerous drivers.
Cleland to speak
SALEM -- Former Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, who lost both legs and his right arm while serving in the Army in Vietnam, will speak at a dinner co-hosted by the Columbiana County Democratic Party and the Columbiana County ALF-CIO. The event starts at 6 p.m. Friday at Timberlanes. The cost is $25.
Cleland served in Vietnam for three years. He later was the youngest administrator of the Veterans Administration and served in the Senate for six years. For tickets, call (330) 332-0292.
Haunted Bike Trail
LOWELLVILLE -- The Lowellville Firefighters Association and Lowellville Firefighters Ladies' Auxiliary will host the 2nd Annual Lowellville Haunted Bike Trail beginning Friday.
Visitors will walk along the bike trail beginning at East Liberty Street, then board a hayride for a return trip.
Tickets are $3 each; children 6 and younger are admitted free.
The haunted trail will be open, weather permitting, 7 to 11 p.m. Friday-Oct. 17, Oct. 23 and 24 and 29-31.
Items stolen in city hall
YOUNGSTOWN -- Is there a thief in city hall? The city's law department filed a report Friday with police stating that several office supplies were stolen. The items taken include an electric stapler, a labeling machine, an electric pencil sharpener and $18 worth of stamps.
The secretary in the law department who filed the report said her office and others in city hall have had items stolen recently.
Election forum
SHARON, Pa. -- "What Women Have At Stake in the November Election" is the topic of a free public forum to be offered Oct. 17 at Penn State Shenango. Carol Rich, co-chairwoman of the Mercer County Commission for Women, will serve as moderator.
The forum will feature presentations by Mercer County Commissioner Olivia Lazor, representing Democrats, and Ann Coleman, legislative aide to Sen. Robert Robbins of Greenville, R-50th, representing Republicans. The program will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Penn State Forum in Forker Laboratory.
