GRANT SUPPORTS CONCERTS
Grant supports concerts
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College has received a grant of $1,851 from the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance for partial support of Capelle Meisters, a classical organ concert series.
The first in the series of three concerts will be "Organ vs. Brass" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

Comedy at Playhouse
YOUNGSTOWN -- Children of Israel Congregation is sponsoring a night of family-oriented comedy at 7 p.m. next Sunday at Youngstown Playhouse.
Merv Hollander will serve as master of ceremonies for the program, "The Catskills come to Youngstown, Ohio." The production will feature performances by two outstanding comics, Freddie Roman, who has headlined shows at major resorts across the country, and Brad Zimmerman, who has performed with such entertainers as Joan Rivers and Alan King.

Ghost ballads in Niles
NILES -- The Niles McKinley Memorial Library will present ghost ballads from the European Medieval/Renaissance era that still frighten and excite today.
Ghost ballads will be performed by Hank Arbaugh at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Clayman Community Room at the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center, 40 S. Main St.
The ballads tell of ghosts forced back to earth, ghosts who visit this world to rescue or wreak vengeance upon humans or ghosts who magically change into giants, deer, swans and even singing violins.
The Ohio Humanities Council, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, provided funding for the program.

Folk singer in concert
PITTSBURGH -- One of Israel's most accomplished singers, Chava Alberstein, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Byham Theater.
Sponsored by Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the concert will feature the folk singer in an intimate evening of songs that express love, prayer, defiance and melancholy.

Slovak concert set
BOARDMAN -- The Ivaskas Father-Son Duet, on tour from Slovakia, and the Dolina Slovak Folk Band from Cleveland will be featured at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at Boardman Center Middle School on Market Street.

Mister Rogers tribute
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- CDs of Slippery Rock University Orchestra and Concert Choir's one-hour world premiere of "In Memoriam: A Requiem for Mister Rogers," are available. The latter took place during the spring semester as a tribute to the late Fred Rogers of PBS' "Mister Rogers Neighborhood."
The composition is based on a traditional Latin requiem and includes singing, poetry, Hebrew a cappella, string music, dramatic readings and ethnic drumming.

Gospel choir releases CD
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster College Gospel Choir recently released its first CD. Recorded with a five-piece band during a concert in Wallace Memorial Chapel, the 23-member choir's songs include "Stir Up the Gift," "Psalm 117" and "I Will Bless the Lord."
