First baby is on wayfor Stella McCartney
LONDON -- Fashion designer Stella McCartney, daughter of former Beatle Paul McCartney, has announced that she is expecting her first child.
McCartney made the announcement Thursday at the launch of her new spring/summer collection during Paris Fashion Week. A spokesman for the designer confirmed she was 31/2 months pregnant.
The designer told The Daily Telegraph newspaper she didn't know whether the baby would be a boy or a girl.
"I want it to be a natural thing," McCartney was quoted as saying. "I want it to be a surprise."
McCartney, 33, married former publisher Alasdhair Willis in August 2003.
The baby will be the third grandchild for the former Beatle. His eldest daughter, Mary, has two sons. His wife, Heather Mills McCartney, gave birth to a daughter, Beatrice, last year.
P. Diddy wantsa few good ladies
NEW YORK -- Sean "P. Diddy" Combs is on the prowl for some ladies -- who can sing and dance.
On Thursday, he announced dates for an open-call audition for his new MTV series, "Making the Band 3," a reality show about Combs producing an all-girl pop group.
"I want a group of women that can sing like Christina Aguilera and dance like Usher," Combs told The Associated Press by phone. "I'm looking to create an international supergroup to follow in the footsteps of the Supremes and Destiny's Child."
Combs hosted "Making the Band 2" for three seasons in which he formed the hip-hop group, Da Band, before disbanding them. This time around, Combs sees less opportunity for failure.
"Diddy with the ladies! How can you go wrong?" he told the AP on Thursday.
The rap and fashion mogul says the new group will still have hip-hop undertones, and will definitely have more determination. To detect the right girls, P. Diddy says he has an eye -- and an ear and a nose -- for talent.
"I have the ear. I can see it. I can smell it. I know in my gut," he said.
This won't be P. Diddy's first time crafting an all-girl pop group. He was the mastermind behind Dream, a pop quartet who sang the hit "He Loves Me Not."
The open-call auditions begin Tuesday in Los Angeles, then head to Miami on Oct. 18 and New York City on Oct. 21. Contestants must be at least 18 years old.
"Making the Band 3" will premiere on MTV early next year.
Courtney keepsquiet in court
LOS ANGELES -- A low-key Courtney Love made a brief court appearance and was told to return Oct. 27 for a preliminary hearing to determine if she stands trial for allegedly attacking a woman with a liquor bottle.
Love, who strode into court wearing a miniskirt and sweater over tights and thigh-high boots, softly answered "yes" Thursday when asked if she agreed to the next court date.
She was mobbed by TV and still photographers as she left the courthouse. A team of sheriff's deputies was assigned to keep the media crowd under control.
"Look this way, Courtney!" one person shouted. But the 40-year-old singer-actress hurried to her car without posing or commenting.
Love has pleaded not guilty to the felony assault charge and is free on $150,000 bail. She allegedly attacked the woman at an ex-boyfriend's home in April.
