SALEM -- Locust Grove Baptist Church will host a live satellite conference, Extraordinary Women 2004, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30. The conference, "Women At the Well: Finding Life, Love and Relationships," will feature speakers Stormie Omartian, Ruth Graham, actress Jennifer O'Neill and former Youngstown area residents Dave and Jan Dravecky, who will address the needs of women today as they help all women experience what the woman at the well did when she met Jesus. Lunch will be provided, and Point of Grace will give a conference. These satellite conferences are free to the public as an outreach ministry of Locust Grove Baptist Church, which is the host site in the Youngstown-Warren area. Although the conference is free, it is necessary to register. Registration materials are available by calling Pastor Robert Noble at (800) 755-1629. The church is at the intersection of state Route 165 and Washingtonville Road, 1 1/2 miles west of state Route 46. The satellite down-feed begins promptly at 11:30 a.m.
Show set at First Assembly
GIRARD -- First Assembly of God Church, 6779 Belmont Ave., Liberty Township, will present Kirk and Patti Lytle in "Together Again. For the First Time," at 10:40 a.m. Oct. 17. The show, written by the Lytles, is a walk through the Halls of Faith. The program captures the personalities of ordinary people who accomplished extraordinary things during 20 centuries of Christianity. For information call (330) 539-0003.
EverGreen to host programs
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen presents a Labyrinth Walk from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 at Villa Maria Community Center. The theme is: "Path of Peace." The Labyrinth is a tool for enriching the spiritual journey. Sister Therese Pavilonis, H.M., will offer a brief history and introduction before all walk the Labyrinth in silence and reflection. Also, EverGreen and Villa Maria Sister Services will be hosting "Ion-Cleanse: A Gentle Body Detox" from 6:30 to 8 p.m Thursday, as part of the Complementary Health Series. Presenter Sandra Yambar demonstrates and explains Ion-Cleansing, a gentle process using water and a foot bath, which help detoxify the body. Follow the EverGreen signs for both events. Youth Club at Girard church
GIRARD -- Children and youth may still join in at Youth Club at Girard First United Methodist Church at 22 N. Market St., across from the Girard post office. Sixty children and youth have registered so far. The club is a free program for all community children and youth from 4 year olds to teens that meets from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday. '40 Days of Purpose Initiative'
CORTLAND -- Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, 2576 McCleary Jacoby Road, will launch its "40 Days of Purpose Initiative" with a national simulcast kickoff event at 6 p.m. today. The program, which has events through Nov. 21, is based on the popular book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, who is a senior pastor of a large congregation at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif. There are 30 home groups formed and there is still time to sign up for one. Those who attend the kickoff will receive a free copy of the book. Trinity's senior pastor, the Rev. Dan Barker, will give weekly purpose-driven messages beginning Oct. 10. There will be daily readings of the book's 40 chapters and weekly Bible study groups as well as 40 daily e-mails of encouragement from the Rev. Mr. Barker.
