DISTRICT ROUNDUP Beaver Local claims seventh straight win



The Beavers held off Chardon to post a 30-28 victory.
LISBON -- Steve Mercer completed five of 11 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns Friday as the Beaver Local High football team improved to 7-0 with a 30-28 victory over Chardon.
The game ended when the Division III Beavers intercepted a Hilltoppers pass in the end zone.
Dan Kinsey's 36-yard touchdown reception and Mercer's 8-yard scoring run put the Beavers ahead, 14-0.
After Jon Bell scored on a 9-yard run for the Div. II Hilltoppers, the Beavers extended their lead to 23-7 on Jim Bowersock's 2-yard touchdown run and a safety.
The Hilltoppers (5-2), the No. 6 team in Region 5 of this week's computer playoff ratings, scored the next two touchdowns. After Jeff Jermejcic caught a 26-yard pass from Bobby Doyle, Bell scored on a 2-yard run.
In the fourth quarter, Eddie Sprouse caught a 21-yard touchdown pass for the Beavers, the No. 2 team in Region 11.
Josh Weese caught three passes for 91 yards for Beaver Local and Bowersock rushed 20 times for 102 yards.
Bell led the Hilltoppers with 163 yards on 19 carries.
Southeast 20Mogadore 12
RAVENNA -- Joe Knopick ran 24 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns to lead Southeast (5-1-1, 4-1) in a Portage County League game.
Knopick also completed 8 of 17 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown as the Pirates outgained Mogadore (5-2, 4-1) 330-293. Frank Locher had two receptions for 60 yards for Southeast and Blake Beetler caught two passes for 55 yards.
Louisville 13West Branch 8
LOUISVILLE -- Mark Gulling completed nine of 14 passes for 159 yards and a 32-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Smith that put Louisville in front, 13-2.
Brian Whaley rushed 22 times for 111 yards and a 6-yard score for Louisville (6-1, 3-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
For the Warriors (3-3-1, 1-3), Bobby Swallow hit on 5 of 13 passes for 62 yards and he ran for a 1-yard touchdown.
Eric Balputnis carried eight times for 33 yards and J.R. Gibson ran five times for 26 yards for the Warriors.
