Warren ABWA marks founding at social

WARREN -- Warren Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association held a membership social Sept. 26 at Warren SCOPE Center in recognition of the organization's founding date, Sept. 22, 1949, by Hillary A. Bufton Jr., a Kansas City businessman.
Warren Mayor Michael J. O'Brien presented a resolution to Barbara Weaver, chapter president, that proclaimed the day as "American Business Women's Association Day" in the city of Warren.
Anna McGrath, program chairwoman, answered the question, "What is ABWA?" and Ruby Hawkins, education chairwoman, explained the educational benefits of ABWA membership.
In a news release, Carolyn Bufton Elman, executive director, said, "ABWA is not the same association it was 50 years ago. By continually re-inventing itself, ABWA is able to give woman what they want today in a professional organization. ABWA is able to provide members with the professional tools they need to stay current and to succeed in today's market."
