Steel Street teen charged after stolen-car chase



AUSTINTOWN -- A Youngstown teen accused of driving a stolen car in a chase with police early today is facing several charges.
Austintown police charged Matthew Clingerman, 17, of Steel Street, with resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, driving under suspension, violation of curfew and felony receiving stolen property.
Police gave this account: Clingerman was driving a car they spotted weaving in and out of business parking lots on North Meridian Road about 2 a.m. The car had been reported stolen in Youngstown.
When police tried to pull him over, Clingerman drove away, leading officers on a chase through several side streets in Youngstown.
Clingerman eventually stopped the car on Mahoning Avenue west of Belle Vista Avenue, got out and ran. He was arrested after a foot chase.
Reports do not say where he was arrested. He was taken to the Mahoning County juvenile justice center.
A 15-year old boy, of North Brockway Avenue, Youngstown, was a passenger in the car and did not run from police, reports state. He was cited for violating curfew and released to his parents.
