HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER Ursuline beats Fitch for 1st time in 5 years



Ryan Novotny spearheaded the Irish to a 3-1 victory over the Falcons.
STRUTHERS -- Ryan Novotny scored two goals and added an assist as the Ursuline High boys soccer team defeated Austintown Fitch 3-1 Thursday for its first win over the Falcons in five years.
Nick Chaney also scored and Vlad Lungu had an assist for the Irish (5-5-2). Jared Daly had 11 saves.
Brad Hrinko scored for Fitch and Brent Sopko had six saves.
Columbiana 5, United 2
HANOVERTON -- Kyle Martin and Deric Graft each scored two goals and Eric Ostrander added one for Columbiana, in a Tri-County League game.
Austin Dangler and Brock Volio each scored for the Golden Eagles.
Columbiana's Ryan Guy had 17 saves.
Canfield 2, Alliance 1
CANFIELD -- Junior Adams Jones scored Canfield's first goal early in the game.
In the second half, freshman Mario Nigro scored on an assist by sophomore Nick Benedetto.
Alliance's goal was scored by Brent Gurung.
Canfield's goalie, junior Mike Musilli, had four saves, while Alliance's Chad Swisher had 17.
Girls
WARREN -- Senior Katie Piacquadio had a goal and two assists to lead Warren JFK over Bristol, 4-0.
Lexi Polivka, Genna Roman and Jenn Natale each added goals, while Jacqueline Mohney and Abbey Ross added assists for JFK (7-7). Jacquee Lombardi had one save for JFK, which out-shot Bristol, 25-1.
Kylie Robertson had 16 saves for Bristol (6-5-2).
Youngstown Christian 6, LaBrae 0
AUSTINTOWN -- Kendra LaGamba, Arielle Flores, Dami Oshonoa, Anneliese Daniluk, Eleni Yargo and Kara Cooper each scored a goal for the Eagles (3-5-2).
Vickie Bankhead and Cooper both had assists.
The Eagles had 28 shots on goal and LaBrae had 32.
Youngstown Christian goalkeepers Cathy Wengerd and Flores had 15 and 17 saves, respectively.
