What's on, what's off
In Youngstown: Jazz violinist Joe Deninzon and his band, Stratopheerius, will play at 8 p.m. next Friday on the upstairs stage at Maennerchor Club, 831 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Deninzon, a son of Russian classical musicians, has been called "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin" because of his enthusiasm in playing rock, funk and jazz music. Deninzon grew up in Cleveland, where at age 16 he performed with Michael Stanley Band, and now lives in New York. Special guest will be Michael Powell, a Youngstown resident who has played music with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, Devo and Joe Walsh. Accompanying Powell will be local performers Jeff Bremer and Terry Murcko. Tickets are $15, with $3 discounts for students. Call Ravendreams Productions at (330) 747-5404 or send e-mail to ravendreams@cboss.com. A percentage of proceeds will go to Peace Action Youngstown for a Sane World.
