Recycling drive to collect hazardous household items



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Recycling Division of Mahoning County will hold a household hazardous waste collection Oct. 16 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
The drive is open only to Mahoning County residents.
Because of the anticipated high response, residents are asked to bring items during designated hours, based on the first letter of their last name:
UResidents whose last name begins with A-F can drop off items from 9 to 11 a.m.
UResidents whose last name begins with G-N can drop off items from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
UResidents whose last name begins with O-Z can drop off items from 1 to 3 p.m.
Acceptable items include oil-based paints and thinners, household cleaners, pesticides, lighter fluid, swimming pool chemicals, bleach, fluorescent light bulbs, medicines, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks and car batteries.
Among unacceptable items are latex paints, explosives, ammunition, tires and scrap metal.
