Fine Arts Council plans cabaret shows
The band's name is a slang term for steelhead fishing.
WARREN -- Building upon the interest and energy that started with the variety of events coordinated by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County this summer at the Warren Community Amphitheater, the council has decided to offer periodic cabaret/coffeehouse-styled concerts.
Events will be in the Hippodrome Ballroom, High Street, downtown Warren. The first concert will be from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Oct. 15 with Chasin' Steel, a bluegrass band from Michigan.
Chasin' Steel is a slang term for steelhead fishing. Since the band members are avid steelhead fishermen, they decided to blend their two favorite pastimes.
This four-piece group plays songs that feature the banjo, mandolin, guitar and acoustic bass with three and four-part vocal harmonies. They also have several songs that include the hammered dulcimer.
Their musical library contains a number of originals along with traditional and contemporary bluegrass covers. The aggressive style of their music attracts fans that enjoy hard-core bluegrass music as well as novices.
About the group
The group is comprised of three brothers -- Jonah (dulcimer, mandolin and baritone vocals), Jacob (banjo, mandolin and bass vocals) and Jason Kuhlman (tenor vocals and bass) along with Adam Carpenter (lead singer, mandolin and guitar). Carpenter also serves as the business manager.
Their performance list ranges from live, on-air broadcasts to a large number of music festivals and a fundraiser for the Midland Folk Music Society. They recently released their first recording, "Bluegrass on the Fly."
Due to space limitations, only 200 tickets will be available for the concert. Tickets are $5 and available from the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, P.O. Box 48, Warren, Ohio, or from the Hippodrome, 150 High St., Warren.
