VOLLEYBALL Struthers outlasts Mooney; Poland wins
Howland defeated Alliance in a MAC match.
STRUTHERS -- The Struthers High volleyball team defeated Cardinal Mooney 30-28, 25-14, 26-24 in a non-conference match Tuesday.
Angela Monico had 22 digs and Nicole Robenolt 13 kills for the Wildcats (5-12).
Mooney (12-3) was led by Sarah Pelini with five aces and four blocks and Michelle Pelini with 35 digs.
Poland 25-18-25-25, Canfield 16-25-17-22
POLAND -- Dee Muransky led Poland (12-7, 7-2) with 12 kills, three blocks and 29 digs in the Metro Athletic Conference match. Doni Muransky added 10 kills, 12 points and three blocks.
For Canfield, Stephanie Jarvis had 17 digs, six points and one ace, and Natasha Kassim eight points, one ace, seven blocks and six kills.
Howland 25-18-25-25, Alliance 23-25-23-22
ALLIANCE -- Jaime Kelly had eight points, 22 kills, three blocks, six digs and three saves in the MAC match.
Taylor Summerfield had 13 points, five aces, 10 kills, four assists and Brittany Kelly had eight points, one ace, four kills, 36 assists, two blocks and one dig for Howland (10-6, 5-4).
For Alliance, Andrea Soltis had 12 blocks.
Brookfield 25-25-25, Newton Falls 10-15-16
NEWTON FALLS -- Morgan Bonkovic had 13 points, 16 kills, five blocks and 10 digs. Laura Klouse had 10 kills and Andrea Gladis had three aces for Brookfield (9-8, 6-5) in a Trumbull Athletic Conference match.
For Newton Falls (1-13, 0-11), Molly Lenarcic had eight kills and seven blocks. Lindsay McCartney added 25 digs and five blocks and Brittany Hall had six points and an ace.
Lordstown 25-25-25,Mathews 20-14-22
LORDSTOWN -- The Red Devils (15-1, 11-0) were led by Alycia Israel's 31 assists and Amanda Kistler's 13 kills in the Northeastern Athletic Conference match.
For Mathews (10-4, 8-3), Jenna Manz had 16 assists, while Amanda Sudon and Jordan Hardul each had six kills.
West Branch 25-25-25, Minerva 16-19-13
BELOIT -- Dena New had 10 points and 28 assists, while Evelyn Woods added eight points, eight kills, seven blocks, 12 passes and two digs for the Warriors (15-4, 8-3) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference match.
