YOUNGSTOWN -- A 15-year-old Woodrow Wilson High School boy who is alleged to have used brass knuckles to threaten another student was arrested Tuesday on a charge of conveying a dangerous weapon onto school property. Police said the knuckles were found in the Rush Boulevard boy's pants pocket. He was taken to the juvenile justice center.
Waste bags available
LIBERTY -- Biodegradable plastic yard-waste bags for the township's annual leaf collection will be available at 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays inside the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, beginning Oct. 18. The cost is five bags for $1. The collections are Nov. 15, south of state Route 304, and Nov. 16, north of Route 304.
Delivery trucks vandalized
YOUNGSTOWN -- Windows were shattered on four panel-type delivery trucks parked in a lot at Anchor Motor Freight, 537 Williamson Ave. Damage from the vandalism, discovered Monday, was estimated at $500, police said
Juvenile court funds
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Department of Youth Services has awarded $35,023 to Mahoning County Juvenile Court to fund case management for the court's mediation program.
The court has four mediators who were trained by the Ohio Supreme Court, with funding provided by the high court, said Judge Theresa Dellick. She said the program is to assist offenders and victims in settling minor disputes without getting the court officially involved.
First-time home buyers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Urban League will have a one-stop shopping program for first-time home buyers in Mahoning, Lawrence, Columbiana and Trumbull counties called "My House."
Participants will have access to financial literacy workshops and receive a certificate that is accepted to begin the loan process toward a home purchase. The workshops will have sessions on credit, spending and how to avoid lenders who might take advantage of them.
Classes start Thursday and continue Oct. 14. To enroll and get the class times, call the urban league at (330) 744-4111 or the league's housing specialist at (330) 743-1384. Refreshments will be served at the classes.
Knock-off DVDs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Aaron Webb, 46, of Burkey Road, Austintown, was issued a citation Tuesday charging him with criminal simulation after police said they found him selling knock-off DVDs from the back of a pickup truck at McGuffey Road and Garland Avenue on the East Side.
Webb also had displayed a rack of clothes that he was selling, reports show. Police said the DVDs had poor quality packaging and no motion picture endorsements. The officers confiscated 28 DVDs and warned Webb to get a peddler's permit for the clothing.
Felonious-assault charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- Camille McQueen, 24, of Plazaview Court was arrested at her home Tuesday morning on a felonious-assault charge after her live-in boyfriend told police she stabbed him in the left shoulder with a steak knife during an argument.
Desmond Cochrane, 26, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment. Police found the steak knife in the kitchen sink and took it as evidence.
Theft, damage in break-in
YOUNGSTOWN -- A hole was cut in the fence to gain entry to Auto Plaza on Market Street sometime after the business closed Monday evening, reports show.
The rear window of a 1990 Buick was smashed and the steering column damaged; all four tires and wheels were removed from a 1988 Cadillac; and the rear window of a 1988 Chevrolet was smashed, police said. The break-in was discovered Tuesday morning.
