MUNICIPAL COURT Couple reports carjacking: man faces several charges
CAMPBELL -- Demitrius Morris, 20, of Jean Street, was to be arraigned in municipal court today on charges of receiving stolen property, falsification, driving without a license and underage possession of alcohol.
He was arrested late Friday in a vehicle reported stolen by a Boardman couple who told police they'd been carjacked.
According to police, the couple stopped at a downtown Struthers newsstand about 9 p.m. Friday when a man they know asked them to give him and two of his friends, who they did not know, a ride to Campbell.
Near Bridge Street and Notre Dame Drive, the two unknown men starting punching the husband and pushed him out the rear door, the report says.
When the woman, who was driving, stopped and exited the vehicle to see if her husband was OK, the report says the man they knew, who'd been in the front seat giving directions, drove off in their maroon 1990 Ford Taurus station wagon.
Police spotted the vehicle about 10 minutes later at Robinson Road and Blackburn Street. Morris was driving and there were two female passengers who were not charged.
Morris is not the man the couple knows. The report does not say if he was one of the two other men involved in stealing the vehicle.
The couple reported that 29 tablets of Vicodin, $35 in cash, and the wife's purse and sunglasses were missing from the vehicle when they recovered it.
