INJURIES Packers' Favre suffers concussion in loss to N.Y. Giants



Green Bay also lost five other players in Sunday's contest.

Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre sustained a concussion in the third quarter of the Packers' 14-7 loss to the New York Giants when defensive lineman William Joseph knocked him to the ground.
Favre, whose head bounced off the grass, sat out two plays before returning to throw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Javon Walker on fourth-and-5. After celebrating the touchdown, Favre was summoned to the sideline, where medical personnel said he displayed signs of a concussion.
Other Packers injured: defensive end R-Kal Truluck (stinger), linebacker Hannibal Navies (shoulder), kick returner Antonio Chatman (ankle) and safeties Michael Hawthorne (ankle) and Darren Sharper (back).
Buffalo lost starting center Trey Teague (left knee) and left tackle Jonas Jennings (concussion) against New England. The Bills also lost cornerback Troy Vincent (knee).
Patriots receiver Troy Brown did not return after hurting his arm in the first quarter. Wide receiver Deion Branch (knee) and offensive tackle Adrian Klemm (foot) did not travel to Buffalo.
Panthers lose Smart
Carolina kickoff returner Rod Smart injured his left knee on a return in the second quarter. Smart jumped to catch the ball near the goal line, but his knee buckled when he landed.
The injury is another blow to the Panthers' special teams. Carolina lost wide receiver Steve Smith, who also returned punts, to a broken leg in the season opener.
Panthers linebacker Mark Fields had lower back spasms, and Falcons running back Warrick Dunn strained his left hamstring.
Chicago remains decimated by injuries. Quarterback Rex Grossman (knee) and safety Mike Brown (Achilles' tendon) are out for the season, and cornerbacks Charles Tillman (knee) and Jerry Azumah (neck) are sidelined for another few weeks. Linebacker Brian Urlacher missed his second straight game with a pulled hamstring.
Jacksonville left tackle Mike Pearson injured his left knee and could be out for the season.
Wheatley dings shoulder
Oakland running back Tyrone Wheatley dinged his left shoulder in the second quarter of the loss to Houston and did not return as a precaution.
Arizona kickoff return specialist Josh Scobey left in the third quarter against New Orleans with a knee injury.
Miami tackle John St. Clair hurt his right knee and ankle in the loss to the New York Jets. Donnie Abraham's hip-pointer was the only injury for the Jets.
San Diego rookie center Nick Hardwick injured his left knee and wide receiver Eric Parker strained his neck against the Titans. Tennessee wide receiver Tyrone Calico injured a knee and will have an MRI today.
