Ursuline blanks Wilmington, 9-0; Mooney stopped



The Irish evened their record at 5-5-1, while Mooney fell to 11-1-1.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mariah Snyder and Elizabeth Emanuel each scored three goals to lead the Ursuline High girls soccer team past Wilmington Area, 9-0, Saturday.
Also for the Irish (5-5-1), Katelyn Tondo-Steele scored two goals and Hannah Snyder one.
Hannah Snyder recorded three assists, while Geralyn Tondo-Steele and Kaila Buckley each had two and Jessalin Moderalli and Emanuel one each.
Ursuline goalkeeper Jolanta Carkido made six saves.
Mollie McMillan and Kara Kendall combined for 21 saves in goal for Wilmington (4-2).
Laurel 2, Cardinal Mooney 1
SHAKER HEIGHTS -- Cardinal Mooney suffered its first setback of the season.
Laurel (5-4-3) was led by two goals from Jessica Stavole in the first 20 minutes before the Cardinals (11-1-1) responded with a goal from Kelli Willis.
The Cardinals had 19 shots, nine of which were on goal, while the Gators had only four shots on target.
Carianne Betts had eight saves for Laurel. Mooney goalkeepers Natalie Humphreys had two saves in the first half, with Veronica Skowron having to make one save in the second half.
This was the first time this season the Cardinals, who have nine shutouts and have only given up six goals, have given up more than one goal in a game.
Fitch 3, Canfield 0
CANFIELD -- The Falcons (7-3-3) got three goals from Brittney Getz, and goalkeeper Cara Calai made 11 saves in the non-conference game.
Dina Harris and Erica Bortmas assisted on Fitch's goals.
Canfield's record is now 6-6.
Niles 4, Struthers 3
STRUTHERS -- Chelsea Blank scored two goals, while Monique Porter and Ashley Roberts added one apiece, as the Red Dragons defeated Struthers. Goalkeeper Gabby Belcastro made six saves.
For Struthers, Breanne Rhorman scored two goals and Dayna Yash one.
Goalkeeper Maddy Giancola made 21 saves, including one on a Niles penalty kick.
The Wildcats played with just nine players while dealing with injury and absences for personal reasons.
Newton Falls 5, Garfield 0
NEWTON FALLS -- Kortni Collins scored two goals for the Tigers. Mary Jo Spletzer, Casee Piquet and Emily Montgomery each had one.
Piquet had two assists, while Spletzer and Montgomery had one apiece.
The Tigers had 13 shots on goal and Garfield three.
Elizabeth Martin, goalkeeper for Garfield, had eight saves. Grace Spletzer, Tigers goalie, had three saves.
