ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia's offense finally showed up -- and there went LSU's hopes of making another run at the national championship.
David Greene set a school record by throwing five touchdown passes and the third-ranked Bulldogs got a huge victory in the Southeastern Conference, shredding No. 13 LSU and its fearsome defense 45-16 on Saturday.
It was a totally unexpected performance by Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC), which has never been an offensive juggernaut during Mark Richt's four years as coach. The Bulldogs had managed just three touchdowns in their two previous games; they had that many against LSU before the game was 21 minutes old.
The Tigers (3-2, 1-2) had not given up this many points since a 56-13 loss to Florida in 1996.
Greene completed only 10 of 19 passes for 172 yards, but half his completions went for TDs. He tied Johnny Rauch as the most-winning quarterback in Georgia history with his 36th victory as a starter.
Reggie Brown had two TD catches and set a career high with 110 yards receiving. Fred Gibson also hauled in a pair of scoring passes.
No. 4 Miami 27, Georgia Tech 3
ATLANTA -- Brock Berlin threw three touchdown passes and Frank Gore rushed for 115 yards as No. 4 Miami won in its first ACC road game.
Playing without P.J. Daniels, the Atlantic Coast Conference's leading rusher, Georgia Tech was shut down by Miami's tough defense, which forced four turnovers. Miami, fourth in the nation in scoring defense, has allowed only one offensive touchdown in four games.
Daniels was held out with a strained quadriceps.
There had been calls for Miami (4-0, 2-0 ACC) to make a change at quarterback after Berlin threw only two touchdown passes in his first three games. But Berlin was sharp Saturday, completing 10 of 20 passes for 200 yards with no interceptions.
Berlin threw two scoring pases to Roscoe Parrish.
Coach Larry Coker played freshman quarterback Kyle Wright for two first-half possessions, but Wright was held without a first down. Wright returned to play the fourth quarter and completed 4 of 6 passes for 24 yards.
Georgia Tech (2-2, 1-2) has its own issues at quarterback. Reggie Ball completed only 8 of 25 passes for 68 yards with three interceptions. Ball has six interceptions in Tech's last two games.
Chris Woods had 12 carries for 74 yards for Tech and Ball added 60 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Miami answered Bell's field goal with the first of two field goals by Jon Peattie, a 49-yarder.
No. 10 California 49,Oregon State 7
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Golden Bears (3-0, 1-0 Pac-10) jumped out to a 28-7 lead over Oregon State before halftime and never let up in a rout of the Beavers (1-4, 0-2) on Saturday.
Chase Lyman had five catches for a career-high 176 yards and three touchdowns, while Aaron Rodgers completed 12 of 16 passes for 140 yards and three scores.
Cal had not played for 20 days. A game against Southern Mississippi, originally scheduled for Sept. 16, was postponed by Hurricane Ivan. Then the Bears had a bye week.
But Cal showed no lethargy against the Beavers, with Marshawn Lynch's 69-yard kickoff return to start the game. Rodgers capped the opening drive with an 11-yard scoring pass to Lyman, who pulled down the ball while sprinting through the end zone.
The Beavers responded with Dwight Wright's 45-yard touchdown run, evening the score. But it was as much as overmatched Oregon State could muster.
California made it 14-7 on its second series when Rodgers handed off to Terrell Williams, who tossed it to Lyman for a 79-yard score.
No. 22 Louisville 59,East Carolina 7
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Eric Shelton tied a Louisville record with five rushing touchdowns and finished with 129 yards for Louisville.
Louisville (4-0, 2-0 Conference USA) piled up 549 yards overall on the nation's second-worst defense and reached 40 points for the seventh time in 17 games under second-year coach Bobby Petrino.
The Cardinals forced five turnovers and converted three into touchdowns in their last tuneup before an Oct. 14 date with fourth-ranked Miami. The Pirates (0-4, 0-1) have lost nine straight games and 17 of their last 18.
No. 25 Oklahoma St. 36, Iowa St. 7
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Vernand Morency ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns and Jason Ricks kicked three field goals for Oklahoma State.
Jamie Thompson caused two fumbles and recovered another for Oklahoma State (4-0, 1-0 Big 12). The Cowboys, who led 23-0 at halftime, held the Cyclones (2-2, 0-1) to just 59 yards rushing on 37 carries.
