ROUNDUP McCarthy leads Mooney to fourth victory, 36-7
Kyle McCarthy was involved in three TDs as the Cardinals trounced Riverside.
PAINESVILLE -- Kyle McCarthy rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another as he led Cardinal Mooney to a 36-7 victory over Riverside on Friday.
The Cardinals, rated ninth in Division IV of the Associated Press poll, improved to 4-1.
McCarthy put Mooney on top to stay when he scored on a 13-yard run. He also tallied on a 67-yard run.
Dan Babyak caught a 57-yard TD strike from McCarthy in the third quarter.
McCarthy rushed four times for 113 yards. Nathan Burney gained 107 yards on 13 attempts, which included a 27-yard TD run; and he also kicked four extra points.
The Cardinals rushed 36 times for 302 yards and they connected on 5 of 14 passes for 114. The Beavers rushed for 117 yards and passed for 87.
Uniontown Lake 38, Boardman 7
BOARDMAN -- A.J. Workman ran twice for touchdowns on 5-yard runs, while quarterback John Rutan passed for a pair of TDs and ran for another for Lake (5-1, 2-1) in the Federal League game.
Workman rushed 19 times for 156 yards, while Rutan completed 8 of 13 passes for 74 yards. His TD aerials were to Ted Durbin and Jameson Konz, while the quarterback's 40-yard touchdown run at 2:20 of the first quarter followed Josh McCutcheon's interception. On offense, McCutcheon gained 62 yards on 12 attempts.
Of Lake's 357 total yards, 275 were on the ground and 82 in the air.
K.T. Moses scored the lone TD for Boardman (0-6, 0-3), which rushed for 149 yards and passed for 63 for a 212 total.
Moses, a junior fullback, tallied from 4 yards out with 2:58 remaining in the game. He finished with 75 yards on 11 carries. Boardman quarterback Matt Howells completed 7 of 14 passes for 63 yards.
Tuscarawas Valley 35, Canton Timken 13
ZOARVILLE -- Timken couldn't hold a 13-7 halftime lead as it slipped to 1-5.
Carl Cole rushed 16 times for 73 yards and scored on a 14-yard run for the Trojans.
Kyle Albaugh gained 100 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 46, 5 and 1 yards for Tuscarawas Valley (2-4).
