Poland, Mooney capture team titles
COLUMBIANA -- Poland High senior Colleen Moran set a course record with a time of 18 minutes, 57 seconds to place first, leading the Bulldogs to the girls team title in Saturday's sixth-annual Columbiana Cross Country Invitational.
Poland's Lauren Fithian placed third and Molly Noll was seventh for Poland, which edged Boardman 31-46 in the five-team girls race. Other Bulldogs included Daniela Bova (13th) and Allie Patton (15th).
Leetonia's Melissa DiPanfilo was fourth, Mooney's Andrea Firth was fifth and Boardman's Michelle Bistrica was sixth.
Boys
Mooney junior Colin Durina placed second in the boys race and Noah Brak was ninth to lead the Cardinals to the boys team title with 75 points.
Cuyahoga Falls' Stuart Davis placed first in a course-record time of 15:59 -- two seconds faster than Durina -- as Falls finished second with 101 points.
Boardman's Jake Lape finished fourth and his brother, Rick, was seventh as the Spartans placed two teams in the top seven in the 16-team boys race.
Poland's Jimmy Ramson placed third and East Palestine's Corey Chick was fourth.
