MENSA Testing and group information



Known as the club for the super-smart, Mensa will conduct a test later this month for those interested in joining.
The test will be Oct. 16 at the Warren Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave., N.W. Registration starts at 2 p.m. Testing begins at 2:30 p.m. and takes about two hours. Cost is $30. Pre-registration is recommended. For more information, call Marilyn Carpenter (330) 538-3263.
What is Mensa? An international society in which the only qualification for membership is a score in the top 2 percent of the general population on a standardized intelligence test.
When was Mensa founded? In 1946 in Great Britain. American Mensa was established in 1960.
What's the group's make-up? The youngest Mensan is four, the oldest 101. About 43 percent are between 44 and 61. About 1,300 members are younger than 18.
What are some of Mensa's purposes? To identify and foster intelligence. To provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.
How do you join the group? Pass the Mensa test or submit evidence of having achieved a qualifying score on an accepted intelligence exam. The acceptable mark for one of the more popular I.Q. tests is 132 or above.
What are annual dues? $49 a year.
