COLUMBIANA -- Dr. Crystal Mackall, head of immunology and a principal investigator in the pediatric oncology branch of the National Cancer Institute, was awarded the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.A Columbiana County native, Dr. Mackall graduated from NEOUCOM in 1984 and completed a combined residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at Akron Children's Hospital and Akron General Medical Center. She conducts immunology research and a clinical trial program for pediatric cancer therapies and has authored more than 75 medical manuscripts. She lives in Maryland.McDONALD -- Diana Kane, who owns the McDonald franchise of a youth and sports photography company called The Sports Section, won several awards at the company's national convention recently in New Orleans. Kane won recognition for the best individual shot and the best group photo, based on a vote of convention participants, and she took home the Most Improved Franchisee Award and Top Plan Franchisee Award. The Sports Section has 215 franchises operating in the United States, Canada and New Zealand.HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Stephen J. Gurgovits, a vice president and senior regional portfolio manager of F.N.B Wealth Management, has met the requirements to be designated a Chartered Financial Analyst by the CFA Institute. Gurgovits, a Hermitage resident, is also a certified public accountant. He has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Pennsylvania State University, and a master's in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.Gurgovits joined the company in 2002 as a portfolio manager and was promoted to his present position after completing the CFA charter requirements. He previously served as controller and finance manager for the Sports & amp; Exhibition Authority in Pittsburgh.BOARDMAN -- Twenty-nine Coldwell Banker First Place Real Estate agents were presented President's Sales Club Awards recently by the Ohio Association of Realtors given to recognize exemplary performance of Ohio Realtors.
