EAST SUBURBAN Wildcats breeze to third triumph



Tom Harkelrode led Southington's 36-8 win over Cleveland Central Catholic.
SOUTHINGTON -- Tom Harkelrode rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Southington High football team to a 36-8 victory over Cleveland Central Catholic in an East Suburban Conference game Saturday.
Harkelrode scored on runs of 3, 8 and 1 yards while carrying 29 times for the Wildcats (3-3, 2-1). He also had two catches for 45 yards.
Jimmy Bauger also played a big part in the win. He completed 5 of 12 passes for 104 yards, ran for a 1-yard touchdown and tackled Central Catholic's quarterback in the end zone for a safety.
Zack Stalnaker scored the Wildcats' other touchdown on a 4-yard run. He carried 10 times for 41 yards.
Southington also recorded seven interceptions, three by Anthony Rura for 31 yards.

LOUISVILLE -- Quarterback Nick Pederzolli scored on runs of 1 and 36 yards to spark the Knights (3-3).
Just before halftime, the Eagles (0-5) went from the Knights' 39-yard line down to the 3, with Sal Mineo, who gained 54 yards on 12 rushes, carrying three times for 8, 16 and 12 yards.
The march fizzled out when the Eagles lost 9 yards on three rushing attempts, then tried a field goal, which was blocked.
The Knights gained all of their yards (164) on the ground and didn't try a pass. The Eagles rushed for 60 yards and were 4 of 9 passing for 51.
