DISTRICT West Branch, Beaver Local win easily
Joe Knopick's 123 yards delivered a Southeast victory.
BELOIT -- Eric Balputnis ran 11 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns Friday to lead the West Branch High football team past Akron Springfield, 39-0.
Scott Thomas added 15 carries for 99 yards and a pair of first-quarter touchdowns for the Warriors (3-2-1, 1-2 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
A 19-point second quarter allowed West Branch to build a 33-0 lead at the break.
Quarterback Jimmy King completed three of seven passes for 56 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown to Griffin Romigh.
Matt Catania returned a punt 48 yards to set up the second touchdown of the game and he brought an interception back 65 yards for a touchdown.
Adam Helms caught four passes for 108 yards for Akron Springfield (0-6, 0-3).
Beaver Local 43, Zanesville 2
LISBON -- Jim Bowersock and Dan Kinsey both scored twice, with one of Kinsey's a 90-yard return on the opening kickoff, to lead Beaver Local's sixth straight victory.
Bowersock, a junior fullback, scored on runs of 25 and 73 yards and finished with 159 yards on 10 carries for the Division III Beavers, ranked behind No. 1 Steubenville Big Red in Region 11.
Josh Weese, a senior tailback, added 100 yards on 11 carries. Kinsey is a senior wingback for the Beavers, who gained 375 of their 440 yards on the ground.
Zanesville (2-4) managed only 86 total yards. Beaver Local has beaten the Blue Devils three straight years.
Southeast 22, Field 19
RAVENNA -- Joe Knopick ran 22 times for 123 yards and three touchdowns for the Pirates (3-1-1, 3-1 Portage County League).
Field (1-5, 1-3) took a 12-0 lead after one quarter then Southeast closed the matter on a 22-7 burst.
Southeast ran for 185 yards and had 252 total yards.
Field showed 241 total yards, including 207 on the ground.
