Boil order lifted
AUSTINTOWN -- The Youngstown Water Department has lifted the boil order for homes on South Wendover Avenue. The boil order was issued Wednesday when contractors moved a waterline. The water department said the drinking water has been tested and found to be safe.
Leaf pickup program
CANFIELD -- The city's leaf pickup program is set to run Friday to Nov. 24. Leaves to be picked up must be placed in a single row within 6 feet of the edge of the street. The row should be parallel to the street. Leaves must not be in the street or mixed with stones, twigs or debris.
Self-protection workshop
AUSTINTOWN -- Registration is being held for a two-part self-protection workshop scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 13 and 19 in the township park building on Kirk Road. Acting township Police Chief Mark Durkin will instruct attendees on preventing attacks and using physical techniques to repel attacks. Registration costs $10, and space is limited. Stolen merchandise report
WARREN -- An employee of the Albert Guarnieri Co., 1133 E. Market St., told police that someone stole 101 cartons of cigarettes and five boxes of candy out of a truck. According to reports, the merchandise was stolen around 7 a.m. Thursday while employees were loading another truck.
Transformer explodes
HOWLAND -- No injuries were reported when a transformer, located behind Boston Market off state Route 46, blew up and caught on fire. According to Trumbull County 911 officials, the transformer exploded around 9:34 a.m. Friday. The Niles electric department was contacted.
Lead screenings at fair
WARREN -- A health fair with free lead screenings for children will be held at Packard Music Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
The goal of the fair, sponsored by the Trumbull County Lead Task Force, is to raise public awareness of lead poisoning.
The event will include health exhibits and demonstrations, the Warren Fire Department fire safety trailer and Warren Police Department K-9 unit and Halloween candy for children.

Meeting rescheduled
HUBBARD -- Due to a conflict with Hubbard High School homecoming parade Thursday, the People for Progress Political Action Committee has rescheduled its meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hubbard Municipal Building council chambers. The People for Progress City Income Tax Promotion Committee invites all interested parties to attend.
Ponytail raffle
BRISTOLVILLE -- Bristol High School faculty and students donated $50 for a raffle to cut off the ponytail of science teacher Kelly Felix. The ponytail was cut off during a special assembly Friday. Proceeds of the raffle were donated to the PTO, officials said.
Arson, fraud charges
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Billie Joe Wyant, 36, of Logan Road, New Castle, is charged with arson, insurance fraud and attempted insurance fraud. Lawrence County District Attorney Matt Mangino said the arrest came after an investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal and the Lawrence County arson investigation team. Wyant is accused of setting a fire at her home Oct. 24, 2002, and making an insurance claim with Mid-Continent Insurance Co. She was arraigned by District Justice J.V. Lamb and released without monetary bond. A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Lawrence County Central Court.
Special meeting
NORTH JACKSON -- Jackson Township trustees will have a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the fire station, 229 N. Salem-Warren Road, to discuss a cemetery survey and quotes for a concrete pad to be installed at the maintenance garage, and for a lawn mower for the cemetery and road departments.
Stolen antiques sold
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Two Pittsburgh antiques dealers knowingly purchased and sold stolen goods, according to Pittsburgh police. James Bolen, owner of M & amp;J Antiques, and Peter Morris, owner of Arsenal Antiques, sold goods to dealers and auction houses in Maryland and Massachusetts, police said. They are charged with multiple counts of conspiracy to distribute stolen property and possession of stolen goods. Both men declined to comment. Police were trying to put a dollar amount on the case, but said it's difficult because Bolen and Morris dealt mostly in cash.
