VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP Western Reserve ends Springfield's ICL skein



The Blue Devils won the five-set match, snapping the Tigers' 20-match mark.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Andrea Martin had 22 points, 12 kills and 13 digs as the Western Reserve High volleyball team ended Springfield's 20-match Inter-County League win streak with a five-set victory on Thursday.
The Blue Devils lost the first two matches, 18-25, 13-25, then won 25-20, 25-23, 15-9. Springfield's last ICL loss came to Mineral Ridge in 2002.
Sara Kutsko, a 6-foot-1 middle hitter, added 10 kills and 16 blocks for the Blue Devils (11-6, 4-2 ICL). Kutsko's 16 blocks broke her school record of 14, which she set last year against Springfield.
For the Tigers (13-5, 6-1), Rachel Mincher had 14 points and 12 kills. Christy Warren added nine points, six aces and 15 kills.
Mineral Ridge 22-25-25-25, Lowellville 25-23-21-13
MINERAL RIDGE -- Abbey Kiger had 16 serves, five kills and three blocks for the Rams (11-5, 3-3 ICL). Katie Garland added two aces and 15 assists.
For the Rockets (4-9, 1-5), Kaitlin McCarthy had seven kills and Rebekah Sturgiss had 14 digs.
South Range 19-25-25-21-15,Jackson-Milton 25-8-18-25-12
NORTH LIMA -- Tara Chizmar had three aces, seven digs and 16 kills for the Raiders (3-12, 3-3 ICL). Pam Miller added six aces, 49 assists and 19 digs.
For Jackson-Milton (5-8, 2-5), Allison Chepke had an ace, 18 digs and 11 kills and Megan Whitmer 17 assists, 23 digs and seven kills.
United 29-25-25, East Palestine 27-17-17
EAST PALESTINE -- Ashley Bergman had eight kills and four blocks for United (9-6, 7-3 Tri-County League), while Ashley Webb added eight kills and five blocks and Ashley Erb six kills.
For East Palestine (6-7, 4-5), Amanda Mesmer had 15 points and nine blocks, Renee Torrence 11 points and Sarah Stewart five kills.
Lordstown 25-25-25, Southington 10-13-14
LORDSTOWN -- Amanda Kistler had eight kills to lead the winners (13-0, 10-0 Northeastern Athletic Conference).
Also for Lordstown, Alycia Israel had five digs and Christa Israel scored 13 points.
West Branch 25-24-25-25, Canton South 23-26-14-22
CANTON SOUTH -- Ashley Davis had three passes and Dena New added seven points, four kills, two blocks and 36 assists for the Warriors (14-4, 7-3 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Canton South is 5-7, 4-7.
