Pharmacist, doctor face drug charges
WARREN -- A Trumbull County grand jury indicted a Warren pharmacist and a Youngstown doctor in connection with drug trafficking in two unrelated cases.
An indictment released Thursday charges Dr. Lovsho Phen, of Spring Park, Youngstown, with six counts of illegal trafficking in drug documents and six counts of trafficking in drugs for providing a friend, Laurene Renn-Steele, with prescriptions for diet pills.
Prosecutors say Dr. Phen, 52, did not conduct a medical examination to determine that the prescription was needed.
Renn-Steele, no age available, of Brook Drive, Brookfield, is charged with six counts each of illegal processing of drug documents, trafficking in drugs and deception to obtain a dangerous drug.
The grand jury also indicted Gary Nicholas Sass, a pharmacy department employee at the West Market Street CVS, on a count of aggravated trafficking in drugs, three counts of illegal processing of drug documents and two counts of trafficking in drugs.
Prosecutors say Sass, 44, offered an undercover officer prescription painkillers in exchange for sex.
