OHIO Disaster relief offers grants to 20 counties
More than $6 million in disaster grants has been approved.
LISBON -- Some 749 disaster assistance applications have been received and 148 housing assistance grants totaling $233,064 have been approved for the tri-county area as of Sept. 30, federal and state disaster relief officials have reported.
In Columbiana County, which was hardest hit by recent flooding, 329 applications were received, with 90 housing assistance grants totaling $190,888 approved. Eighteen grants totaling $117,036 were approved there for other needs.
In Mahoning County, which was more recently added to the disaster declaration, 147 applications have been received, with 15 housing assistance grants totaling $6,405 approved.
In Trumbull County, 273 applications have been received, with 43 housing assistance grants approved, totaling $35,771. Eight grants totaling $13,272 were also approved for other needs there.
Throughout 20 counties
In the entire 20-county disaster area, 1,870 disaster housing assistance grants totaling $3,392,094 have been approved, according to the federal and Ohio emergency management agencies. These grants restore disaster-damaged, uninsured homes to save living conditions or provide temporary disaster rental assistance.
Some 435 approved grants for other needs total $2,674,568, bringing total disaster grants in Ohio to $6,066,662.
Some 3,197 applications have been issued for low-interest U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans for homeowners, renters and businesses. In addition to the tri-county area, people in Lawrence and Mercer counties may also apply for these loans, SBA said.
Those wishing to apply for assistance may call toll-free (800) 621-FEMA, 24 hours a day. That number is least busy after 6 p.m., FEMA said.
A walk-in disaster recovery application and information center will operate until further notice from 1 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays at the Columbiana County Career Center, 9364 state Route 45, Lisbon.
