Grand jury indicts 11 in possible counterfeit check ring
YOUNGSTOWN -- Eleven people from Mahoning and Trumbull counties were indicted Thursday in what prosecutors say was a counterfeit check ring.
The indictments were handed up by a Mahoning County grand jury for multiple counts of forgery, theft and receiving stolen property.
Prosecutor Paul Gains said the defendants either stole checks and cashed them, or created bogus checks on computers and cashed them at area banks. He was unsure of a total amount they are accused of stealing.
Gains said his office received reports of the thefts from police in Youngstown, Boardman and Liberty. The activity happened in June, July and August, according to the indictments.
Those indicted are: Natalie Mack, Erika Scroggins, Charletta Allen, Gregory Mitchell, Danetta Cleckley, Charmaine Williams, Vincent Atwood, Dale Posterli and Dwayne Arrington, all of Youngstown; Roy Joe White of Hubbard; and Mary Dean of Warren. Their ages were not available.
All but Dean and Cleckley also were indicted on a charge of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
