Caregiver sentenced in death of woman, 79
AKRON (AP) -- A woman will serve 15 years in prison for arranging the death of an ailing 79-year-old woman so she could inherit her $650,000 estate.
Michele Cramer, 42, of Ravenna, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and felonious assault. Her daughter, Jamie Lee Wagner, 19, received the same sentence after pleading guilty to the same charges in August 2003.
Cramer worked as a caregiver for Gysberta Boer and enlisted the help of Wagner in killing the widow. Wagner smothered Boer with a pillow.
Authorities had believed that Boer died of natural causes June 12, 2002, at her suburban Cuyahoga Falls condominium. Her body was cremated without an autopsy.
The death turned into a homicide investigation 10 months later after police received a tip from another of Cramer's daughters.
