HOCKEY Woman goalie makes debut for men's team in Australia

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Barbara Zemann is a banker by trade. Now she's the first female to play for an Austrian men's hockey team.
The 33-year-old Zemann made her debut for KSV Feuerwehr in the country's third division on Nov. 20, but was formally introduced by the team Monday.
"It's wonderful. I'm proud and honored," said Zemann, who played goalie for the EHV Sabres, Austria's champion women's hockey team.
Last year, Canadian female Olympic star Hayley Wickenheiser played in Finland's second-highest league, and the center became the first woman to score a goal in a men's pro hockey game.
In 1992, Canada's Manon Rheaume made history by being the first woman to play in the National Hockey League -- tending goal for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a preseason game against the St. Louis Blues.
"Times have changed, and Barbara has all it takes to play for a men's team," Austrian Hockey Association spokeswoman Bettina Gressel said.
Zemann's debut for KSV Feuerwehr was rocky. She gave up 10 goals in a 23-4 loss to title favorite HC48er Vienna. Still, she'll start in goal in KSV Feuerwehr's next game.
"Although she conceded 10 goals, she showed some great reflexes and saves," said Bernhard Austerer, who scored four goals for HC48er.
Zemann was a banker until she began playing hockey six years ago because of a bet.
"Three men had to help me get into that gear," she of her first time playing goalie. "I actually asked them to carry me to the rink because it was so heavy."
Zemann, a former youth soccer player, immediately developed a passion for the sport and decided to try it out for real. Five months later, she founded the Vienna Sabres.
