AREA COLLEGES Westminster beats Carnegie Mellon by only two points in a shootout



PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Junior forward Dom Joseph scored the final two of his team-high 24 points on a layup with 19 seconds remaining, helping Westminster defeat Carnegie Mellon 102-100 in the championship game of the Ramada Plaza Suites/CMU Invitational.
Pat O'Connor added 19 points for the Titans (4-1), while Craig Hannon added 17 and Ed Pagley had 16.
Pagley, who averaged 22 points in two wins, was selected tournament MVP and O'Connor was named to the all-tournament team.
Hiram 74, Penn State-DuBois 42
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Hiram took third place in the Allegheny National City Classic.
Carlton Dean and Alan Lottinville each scored 17 points. A.J. White added 13 points. DaJuan Whiteside and Mervyn Jones had eight rebounds apiece.
Whiteside was named to the all-tournament team.
On Saturday, Hiram lost to John Caroll, 80-64. Whiteside led the Terriers with 13 points.
Wooster 74, Mount Union 64
COLUMBUS -- Brett Hershberger scored 20 points for the Purple Raiders (0-2). Chris Blakely and Brad Gerard added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Justin Bradley scored 27 points for Wooster (3-0).
Women
MARIETTA -- Bethany defeated Lynchburg 66-63 Saturday in the first round of the Marietta Turkey Shootout.
Lisa Mitchell scored a career-high 17 points for Bethany (1-3), while Katie Resanovich added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Nicole Vlajkovich (Canfield) finished with six points and 15 rebounds and Renee Shehady had nine assists.
Sunday's game was canceled due to a tragic incident involving a family member of the Bethany team.
