Slippery Rock gets grant
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University will use a $125,000 federal grant to continue providing exercise and health education to regional residents with disabilities through its Center on Disability and Health. The grant will keep the center operating throughout the 2005-06 school year.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provided the grant working with U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd. English helped get a $161,000 grant to open the center in August.
The center helps community members with physical and mental disabilities develop healthy lifestyles and reduce health risks associated with obesity, such as heart disease and diabetes.
About 175 people benefit each week, said Robert Arnhold, center director and professor of exercise and rehabilitative sciences.

HONORS
Conservative ranking
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Young America's Foundation has recommended Grove City College as one of its Top 10 Conservative Colleges in the country.
This is the first time the foundation has constructed such a list, which seeks to rank the overall experience that colleges offer rather than solely by numbers such as SAT scores and cost. Others on the list are: Hillsdale College, Franciscan University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Thomas Aquinas College, Harding University, College of the Ozarks, Liberty University, Patrick Henry College and Christendom College.
According to the foundation, many conservative students seek alternatives in higher education, but they may not know that many institutions nationwide fit these criteria.
