PREP BASKETBALL Niles beats Boardman, 63-45, in opener



Ursuline's Tyra Grant scores 25 in a win over Hathaway Brown.
NILES -- Bill Frech and Joe Razzano scored 17 points apiece, to lead Niles McKinley High to a 63-45 victory over Boardman in a high school boys basketball game Saturday night.
The game marked the season opener for both teams.
Jake Schimley scored 12 points for the Red Dragons, who led 16-10 after the first quarter, 27-17 at halftime and 47-33 entering the final period.
Boardman was led by Nick Ludban, who scored 18 points.
Girls
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tyra Grant had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead Ursuline High past Hathaway Brown, 59-37, Saturday in a girls basketball game.
Vannessa Dixon had three assists for the Irish (2-0).
Tiffany Tyree scored 16 points to lead Hathaway Brown (1-1).
Girard 46, Howland 44
HOWLAND -- The Indians improved to 3-0 behind Cachet Murray, who scored 33 points.
Murray also had 10 rebounds for the Indians, who rebounded from a 12-10 first quarter deficit to lead 28-23 at halftime.
Melissa Airhart scored 14 points to lead Howland (1-1). Ana Cvengros had 11 rebounds.
Warren Harding 47, Geneva 45
WARREN -- Desirae Jenkins scored 20 points to lead the Raiders.
Kacie Wooding had 16 rebounds and LaBrea Crawford had 11 for Warren Harding (1-1).
Leslie Douglass and Alexis Korovich scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Geneva.
Sebring 44, Campbell 22
SEBRING -- Ashley Amabeli scored 17 points to lead Sebring. Kaley Drennen added 14 points and Rachel Hawkins scored 10.
Drennen sank a pair of 3-point baskets.
For Campbell, playing its season opener, Maria Rohan, Veronica Lewis and Samantha Jackson all scored six points.
