Youngstown State hopes to build on fast start against tough Boston University.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team tries for a 3-0 start today when it plays host to defending America East Conference Champion Boston University.
Tipoff at Beeghly Center is 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WNIO-AM (1390).
This is a key early season test for the Penguins who have posted two solid wins over Division II programs. The Penguins have victories over Lock Haven, 70-56, and Slippery Rock, 78-60.
Brian Radakovich and Quin Humphrey each scored career highs against Slippery Rock. Radakovich finished with 22 points while Humphrey had 21.
Point guard Jon Mends had a career-high 12 assists while committing just one turnover. The Penguins finished with seven blocked shots, including three by Dwight Holmes.
Boston U. scouting report
Boston (1-1) is coming off a 66-51 victory over Fordham on Wednesday. Chaz Carr led the Terriers with 19 points against the Rams. Matt Wolff scored 17 points off the bench and Rashad Bell added 13. Fordham shot just 35.8 percent from the field and BU outrebounded the Rams 38-30.
BU lost its opener, 58-48, to Holy Cross on Nov. 20 and is playing its first road game this year.
The last time the Penguins started a season with a 3-0 record was in 2000-01 when they began the season 4-0. Prior to that 1994-95 marked the last 2-0 start.
The Penguins play their first road game of the season next Friday night at Southwest Missouri State Price Cutter Classic. Besides the host Bears, Arkansas-Little Rock and Southeastern Louisiana are in the tournament.
