Historical Society's holiday open house
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host its annual holiday open house from 5-7 p.m. Friday, at the Arms Family Museum of Local History, 648 Wick Ave.
The candlelit Arms family home will be decorated for the winter holidays. Hot and cold food and drink and seasonal music will be offered. Guests will also find unique items at Greystone Gifts, MVHS' new museum shop, and can view the recently installed museum exhibit, "85 Years of Caring for Our Community: Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way."
Cost for the Saturday evening event is $15 for MVHS members and $18 for non-members. For reservations, call (330) 743-2589.
A second, free public open house is planned for 1-5 p.m. Saturday.
Thiel Christmas festfeatures many talents
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The annual Thiel College Christmas Festival will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 5 in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center on the Thiel College campus. Performing will be the Thiel Choir, the Thiel College Chamber Singers, and the Thiel College Handbell Ringers, all under the direction of Dr. Michael R. Bray, professor of music, and the Thiel College Band directed by Jeffrey Hvizdos. The concert, "Welcome Yule," will feature works by William Mathias, Zoltan Kodaly, John Rutter, F. Melius Christiansen, and carols and music of the Christmas season. The concert is free. For further information call 724-589-2149.
Holiday musical
Move Over Broadway Productions will conclude their 2004 season with a 10th anniversary holiday musical, "Winter Fantasy -- A Dream Is A Wish...," at Southwoods Auditorium in Southwoods Commons Executive Centre, 100 DeBartolo Place., Boardman. Performance will be 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Dec. 10 and 11 and 2 p.m. Dec. 5 & amp; 12.
This production features 12 children, as Broadway Babies, in addition to an adult cast of singers and dancers. The Winter Wizard (a giant puppet) will make an appearance. Holiday favorite tunes and seasonal music will complement the "dream, wish, fantasy" sequence.
The play will be directed by Marlene Menaldi Strollo, with musical direction by Jodine Pilmer and choreography by Nick Opritza

Loud and, well, loud
CANTON -- The Canton Civic Center will have Ron White, the blue collar comedian, for a show 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13.
