Sandy Lake man is sentenced to jail for misdemeanor assault
MERCER, Pa. -- One man received a jail term and another got probation in Mercer County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday for convictions in separate assault cases.
Judge John Reed sentenced Brett Fetty, 39, of Mercer Street, Sandy Lake, to six months to one year in jail followed by one year's probation for misdemeanor simple assault. According to court documents, Fetty pulled a man out of his truck May 7, 2003, at a Perry Highway address and punched him in the head and face. The victim tried to crawl under the truck to get away but Fetty kicked him in the back and ribs. He was later treated at a hospital for back and rib injuries.
Nicholas Smith, 20, of South Oakland Avenue, Hermitage, was placed on one year's probation for assaulting a woman May 25, 2004. According to court documents, he choked a woman, leaving marks on her neck, and threatened to kill her at a North Walnut Street, Sharpsville, address.
Also sentenced Tuesday was David Jewell, 27, of Brookfield Avenue, Brookfield, for passing bad checks. He was sentenced to two years' probation and ordered to make restitution for two counts of bad checks, a misdemeanor. According to court documents he passed more than $1,195 in bad checks in March, 2002, at Wal-Mart, 3300 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage.
